Finding Your Flight Duration

Where to find it: Check your flight booking confirmation, airline website, or Google Flights. Flight duration is listed in hours and minutes (e.g., “9h 45m” or “9:45”).

Enter as decimal: Convert minutes to decimal. Examples: 9h 30m = 9.5 hours, 12h 45m = 12.75 hours, 7h 15m = 7.25 hours.

Direct flights only: Only enter the actual flying time, not layover time (add layovers in the separate section).

💡 Time Zone Travel Tips

  • Set your watch on departure: Change to destination time immediately to start adjusting mentally
  • Flying east = lose time: Sydney to LA, you “go back in time” and might arrive before you left!
  • Flying west = gain time: LA to Sydney, you “lose” a day crossing the date line
  • Layover confusion: Always confirm layover times are in the layover city’s local time
  • Buffer for connections: Allow 2-3 hours minimum for international connections

Understanding Time Zones

How it works: Earth is divided into time zones roughly 1 hour apart. When you fly east, you move forward in time. When you fly west, you move backward.

Example: Sydney to Los Angeles – You leave at 10am and fly 13 hours. In Sydney time, you’d arrive at 11pm. But LA is 19 hours behind Sydney, so you actually arrive at 4am LA time… the SAME DAY you left!

Why this matters: Knowing your actual arrival time helps you plan pickups, hotel check-ins, meetings, and manage jet lag.
